Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: What is the difference between the benefits of massage therapy and yoga?
Massage therapists focus on working through the deep aches found in the body at that moment. While I absolutely love massage therapy and work closely alongside massage therapists, yoga is different because we’re able to work the muscles in a way that helps people’s bodies be less stiff, more flexible, hold a better posture, and become stronger over time.
Q: Do you offer hot yoga classes?
For now I do not offer any hot yoga classes. I enjoy hot yoga and recommend it once people are ready for it. The problem is many teachers that teach hot yoga allow people that aren’t ready for hot yoga enroll in their classes, and it results in people getting hurt because they aren’t used to the movements or practicing in the heat. I help prepare people for hot yoga with slow, mindful movements until they have the mind-body connection required for hot yoga.
Q: Do I need any prior experience to join your classes?
No prior experience is necessary. My classes are designed to accommodate all levels, from beginners to advanced practitioners. I take an emotional reading of each person who walks through my doors to ensure everyone feels comfortable, safe, and supported in their session.
Q: Can you help with specific injuries or medical conditions?
I specialize in working with clients who have conditions like scoliosis, lower back and hip injuries, scleroderma, neuropathy, fibromyalgia, shoulder injuries, sciatic nerve issues, and more. While I’m not a medical doctor, I use my engineering brain and yoga expertise to help you find long-term relief, while creating a plan so you continue managing or treating your ailment.
Q: I’m nervous about the yoga board. Do I have to try it?
The board isn’t as hard as we make it out to be in our minds. When we feel unsteady, how do we normally react? We form a fetal position, get anxious, and allow our nervous system to tell us that we cannot do it. When we decide it’s time to allow our soul and body to connect rather than allowing our nervous system to take over, we’re able to make mindful, confident decisions. The board amplifies this and acts as a shortcut to gain empowerment in our balance and on land. If you’re nervous, don’t worry. I’ll be by your side every step of the way towards your enlightenment.
Q: Do you offer preventative yoga before there’s an injury?
Preventative methods like yoga are incredibly beneficial for helping the body become whole and resilient so you’ll be stronger and face less injuries. I always say, “If you think health is expensive, try being sick.” Because when we’re sick or hurt, we’ll do everything we can to get better. But when people are willing to change the way they eat, exercise, and live their lives before they are injured, you’ll be able to live an easier life with more joy, less pain, more fulfillment and true alignment.
Q: Do I have to be flexible to do yoga?
You do not need natural flexibility to find comfort from yoga. Infact, most of my students would not call themselves flexible at all! You need to start somewhere and flexibility will come the more you stretch your muscles and become aware of your body. I specialize in helping those with mobility problems, and many have been shocked at how flexible they became overtime.
